Why you should Wake Up Early
Waking up early is one of the easiest things you can do to improve your lifestyle. Although it may seem hard at first, if you keep trying to wake up early, if you keep telling yourself that you will wake up early, you'll build up a habit that will serve you all your life, keeping you fresh throughout the day. When you wake up early, you receive a whole host of benefits. For one, waking up in the morning regularly improves your sleep cycle. If you don't care when you wake up, you won't care when you go to sleep. Because of this, you might sleep at 10 one day, but stay up till 3 the next. Fixing your sleep schedule in place by deciding to wake up early is linked to a better focus and more energy, for one. In addition, waking up on time can give you valuable time in the mornings. You can use this peaceful morning time to exercise before your daily activities wear you down (exercise in the morning stimulates your body and your brain, warming it up for the day ahead), eat a good breakfast and get ready for your day unhurriedly, or even just relax, possibly meditate, and enjoy the extra time that the morning gives you. Waking up early also may increase your positivity and control over your life, as you start the day relaxed and ready for action. So, you know why you should start trying to wake up earlier. But how do you actually go about this? Well, one of the best methods to wake up early is to sleep early. If you constantly hit the recommended amount of sleep, 7-8 hours, your body will realize that it has had enough rest and will be ready to go in the mornings. To force your body to wake up, even something as simple as an alarm clock will suffice to change your habits. When you wake up, the first urge you'll feel is to go back to sleep. Counter this by moving immediately after you wake up, perhaps doing some stretches. Make your bed so that it doesn't tempt you to get back in. Don't take a hot shower in the mornings-- those only make you sleepier. Go for colder water to wake and freshen you up.
But, as with every habit, the hardest part isn't waking up one day; its consistently waking up early, over and over and over again until you just do it subconsciously. One step that you can take is to go slow. Instead of waking up one and a half hours before you do usually, try taking it in intervals. Each day, strive to wake 15 minutes earlier. This way, you won't give up because of all the change you are forcing upon your body. Additionally, make sure you make your goal public. Sharing a goal with friends or family will help you stay accountable. Make sure that you never have "cheat days". Never wake up later than you want to; even if you want to sleep in on weekends, you have to stay strong.
