What's good MEL's. Ooops I know some might be mad that I haven't uploaded for a long time but guess what I'm back, that's what matters yay!! Given that MELnewzers is now all about horror/crime/mysterious stories, here's a very good one:
On March 29th, 2000, the 12th episode of CBS medical drama City of Angels aired, titled "TO Halve or Halve Not". Is that important to the horror/crime/mysterious story at hand? Well, you'll just have to wait and see... (spoiler: no.) On November 7th, 1872, a ship called the Mary Celeste set sail from New York Harbor towards Genoa, Italy. On board was captain Benjamin Briggs, his cousin Sarah Elizabeth Cobb, 2-year old daughter Sophia Matilda Briggs, his wife Sarah Elizabeth Cobb, and a robust crew: Albert G. Richardson, Andrew Gilling, Edward William Head (who possessed a body in addition to the head), Volkert and Boz Lorensen (two names, not one), Arian Martens, and Gottlieb Goudschaal. The troupe of ten (as they weren't called) thus set sail for Genoa, carrying with them 1,701 barrels of good ol' industrial strength denatured alcohol.
Sounds like the start of a happy sea voyaging story, no? No. In fact, this was the beginning of a horror/crime/mysterious story that would be posted online at
https://melnewzers.blogspot.com/ nearly 150 years later. All the way in December, a ship called the
Dei Gratia, also traveling to Genoa but from New Jersey, stumbled upon an eerie sight. In the middle of the atlantic ocean, a ship was sighted about 6 miles away, heading towards them. The ship's movement was erratic and uncontrolled, and there was no one visible on deck. Mad sus, don't you think?
After boarding the Mary Celeste, the crew of the Dei Gratia came to the astonishing conclusion that there was nobody on board. The boat was pretty much intact, and all that was missing was a single lifeboat. No one on the Mary Celeste from that fateful voyage was ever heard from again.
Over the years, conspiracy theories have ranged from a mutiny by the crewmen to some noxious fumes from the alcohol causing the crew to abandon ship. Some more outlandish ones have included a sea monster, even. Truly a mystery, hummm. Really makes you think.
Well, that's all for today, dear MEL's. Stay tuned for more motivational content / horror/crime/mysterious stories, posted every day at 9 am CT.
